Job description

Overview

To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.

At Bridgeport Hospital, we are committed to providing quality medical care and treatment that is coordinated and centered on the patient's specific needs. We strive to achieve benchmarks as a Patient Centered Medical Home and provide healthcare in a setting where patients are at the center of their care team. All employees of Bridgeport Hospital are part of the patient's care team and contribute to promoting access, continuous, comprehensive care, and quality improvement.

As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical frameworks established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, ANA standards, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The role of the RN is exemplified by leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes.

Our professional practice model states, "Achieving outcomes through Autonomy and Accountability." We value Nursing Professional Governance and utilize evidence and data to support practice, always with the patient and family at the center.

Responsibilities
  • Standards of Practice: RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015), encompassing assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN collects pertinent data, analyzes it, identifies expected outcomes, develops and modifies care plans, implements them, coordinates care, promotes health and safety, and evaluates progress.
  • Standards of Professional Performance: The RN demonstrates competent behavior in ethics, cultural practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN practices ethically, respects diversity, communicates effectively, collaborates with stakeholders, leads within their role, seeks ongoing knowledge, and ensures safe and environmentally responsible practice.
Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. All newly hired RNs must have current BCLS certification or obtain it within one month of hire.
