As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The role of the RN includes leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses work within a professional practice model emphasizing "Achieving outcomes through Autonomy and Accountability." We value Nursing Professional Governance and use evidence and data to support practice centered on the patient and family.
The RN provides care that:
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required or must be obtained within one month of hire.
Experience: All RNs encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program.
Licensure: Licensed and registered in Connecticut. Specialty certification encouraged.
Requires prolonged standing, walking, and use of senses; may be exposed to infectious diseases, physical, mental, and emotional stress, and end-of-life situations. Must assist in moving patients weighing from 5 to 300 pounds.
