Overview

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Provides oversight of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities
  1. Assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
  2. Assess learning needs. Provide education to patient and family. Document plan provided, patient’s understanding, and outcomes. Education provided verbally and in writing.
  3. Assist the provider in intra-office procedures. Demonstrate the ability and knowledge to set up for procedures. Maintain a sterile field. Comply with Universal Protocol. Provide care in compliance with regulatory bodies, YNHHS policies, and standing orders.
  4. Assess patients in office and over the telephone for intervention needs, and provide assistance in a timely manner.
  5. Perform nursing duties including physical, pain, and psychosocial assessments, documentation, vital signs, bladder scan, Uroflow, catheter insertion and removal, medication administration, and use of POCT (Point of Care Testing).
  6. Handle and transfer clean and dirty instruments/equipment. Maintain competence in high-level disinfecting of ultrasound probes and point of use cleaning of instruments. Disinfect equipment and room as per standards and policies.
  7. Verify that chart information is accurate and current, including reason for visit, health history, medications, allergies, and other assessments. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth department operation.
  8. Function as preceptor to new staff.
  9. Serve as charge nurse.
  10. Meet performance expectations in Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development.
Qualifications
Education

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.

Experience

2-3 years nursing experience, urology preferred. Recent ambulatory/medical office experience preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet research for patient care.

Licensure

Valid Rhode Island RN license. BLS certification required within one month.

Special Skills

Hospital and unit-based orientation provided.

Physical Demands

Exposure to bodily fluids and biotherapy. Bending, carrying items.
