Job description

Under the general supervision of the Chief Quality Officer, the RN Quality Improvement Specialist / Risk Manager develops, coordinates, and performs daily activities to maintain and improve quality of healthcare, as well as risk mitigation and management, to include medical record reviews, legal document preparation (interrogatories, request for production etc.) with an emphasis on identification of opportunities for system and process improvements. Tracks and trends quality and litigation data information in order to ensure safe, high quality care is maintained. Effective and efficient communication, computer, and phone skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. Must have the ability to adapt to flexible work schedule, problem solve and decision-making. Participates in orientation, education programs, committees, professional organizations, and special projects as assigned. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties in accordance with Hospital mission, values, and behavioral standards. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to effectively communicate to physicians and all employees including professional, technical, and support staff regarding the application of standards to their work environment.
  • Independently coordinates professional peer review program.
  • Independently coordinates and responds to litigation request.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Develop summaries of clinical care provided to patients in a succinct but thorough manner.
  • Collects, records and analyzes quality and litigation data to monitor compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Works closely with members of legal team to gather information and provide guidance on hospital processes for litigation.
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of policy and procedures affecting organizational safety and clinical outcomes.
  • Develops and maintains necessary records, files, and reports.
  • Serves as a resource for data throughout the organization.
  • Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.

  • Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse Licensure with the State of Oklahoma required.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in performance improvement and risk management.
  • BLS within 30 days.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.

Required Physical Demands:

  • Strength (Lift, Carry, Push, Pull): Heavy (exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 lbs to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects)
  • Standing/Walking: Constantly; activity exists 2/3 or more of the time
  • Keyboard/Dexterity: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
  • Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
  • Seeing: Yes
  • Hearing: Yes
  • Color Acuity: No

Environmental Conditions:

Level: High

High exposure to hazardous risks including potential for exposure to infections and communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment and chemicals. Must follow standard precautions. May be required to work weekends or flex schedules. Travel may be required. Exposed to weather conditions during travel. Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.
