Job summary

Alexander Youth Network in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility on a part-time basis. The RN will help monitor client safety, manage medications, and collaborate with the treatment team to support the mental health needs of youth in placement.

The role emphasizes clinical care, crisis intervention, and coordination with guardians for essential child healthcare.

Qualifications

• Valid and current RN licensure with NC Board of Nursing.
• At least 1 year of crisis experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Valid NC or SC Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the milieu and all restrictive interventions to ensure the safety and welfare of PRTF clients.
• Administer medications and medical treatments; observe health status changes.
• Coordinate emergent care and transport; collaborate with Guardians for essential child healthcare needs.
• Provide healthcare education to the PRTF Treatment Team, clients, family members and other programs as needed.
• Explain procedures and treatments to clients to gain cooperation and understanding.
• Demonstrate punctuality, dependability and on-call availability for additional shifts; adapt to scheduling needs.

What You’ll Do:

Federal regulations require Registered Nurses (RN) to be in PRTF ratio 24 hours a day. RN staff must monitor the milieu and all restrictive interventions to ensure the safety and welfare of PRTF clients. RN staff promotes the use of the Neuro-sequential Model of Care; manage medication, medical treatments, observe clients for any health status changes, coordinate emergent care and transport, and collaborate with Guardians to ensure each client’s essential well-child healthcare needs are met during their placement in the PRTF; provide healthcare education to their PRTF Treatment Team members, clients, family members and other agency programs as needed, i.e. Medication Administration and Blood Borne Pathogen/Infection Control. Applies knowledge of child growth and development as it relates to the Neuro-sequential Model of Care; explains procedures and treatments to clients to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension through awareness of comfort and safety needs of client; demonstrates punctuality, dependability and on-call availability to work additional shifts; remains flexible to alter core scheduling when unexpected scheduling needs arise within the department; RN staff will flex to be included in the cottage or classroom ratio when the need arises.
