Job summary

Cameron Memorial Community Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical unit as a PRN, with the ability to work all shifts. Compensation includes competitive pay, incentives for extra shifts, shift differential and weekend differential, reflecting hospital needs and staffing requirements.

The ideal candidate will hold an Indiana RN license (BSN preferred), CPR and ACLS/BLS expected within specified timelines, and have experience in critical care or medical‑surgical

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, BSN preferred.
  • Current RN license in the State of Indiana.
  • Current CPR or CPR certification within 6 months from date of hire.
  • Minimum of 1‑year critical care experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1‑year Medical Surgical experience required.
  • Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia course within 1 year from date of hire.
  • ACLS certification within 1 year from date of hire (prerequisite is a Basic Arrhythmia course).
  • BLS within 1 month of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes assessment skills and techniques to determine patient needs and condition upon admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Completes and documents the nursing assessment on admission and ongoing as defined by unit policy.
  • Assesses patient/family education needs and most effective methods.
  • Regularly rounds on assigned patients and additional patients as needed.
  • Initiate, develop, and document patient care plan and set priorities for nursing action.
  • Develop and document care plans and discharge teaching as necessary.
  • Collaborates with health team members in planning and providing care.
  • Provides safe and comprehensive age‑appropriate nursing care according to policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA policy.

Planning
  • Initiate, develop, and document patient care plan based on patient’s assessment and medical diagnosis and setting priorities for nursing action in accordance with the unit’s policy on time frames.
  • Review and document on care plans and education at least once every shift and as necessary.
  • Develop patient teaching and discharge plan as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other health team members in planning and providing care.
Implementation
  • Delegates care to team members based on complexity, staff education and competency, state regulations and policy and procedure.
  • Provides safe and comprehensive age‑appropriate nursing care according to state regulations and hospital policy and procedure.
  • Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress toward problem resolution.
  • Establish care priorities based on patient problems; communicate with staff, patient problem/concerns/changes in condition. Notify physician promptly regarding concerns.
  • Must be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by lack of medication errors. Reports medication errors.
  • Perform procedures accurately, completely, timely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician orders.
  • Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients. Uses safety precautions appropriately.
  • Initiates emergency resuscitation measure according to resuscitation protocols.
  • Demonstrates understanding and utilization of Standard Precautions, asepsis and infection control procedures.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality according to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital’s HIPAA policy.
Other Responsibilities
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members and demonstrate support of administration.
  • Recognizes the importance of RN participation in performance improvement initiatives for the ongoing delivery of care, as outlined in the Cameron Memorial Community Hospital Guiding Principle and Values.
  • Abides by all federal, state and hospital laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Abides by the Cameron Memorial Community Hospital Compliance Program.
  • Attends at least two continuing education offerings per year in addition to annual unit required competency learning.
  • Attends department meetings for information exchange and stays current with department practice.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of Pyxis and electronic health record system.
