Title: Registered Nurse

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and the healthcare team. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing standards, demonstrating leadership, accountability, and professional growth.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Understand and adhere to hospital performance standards, policies, and behaviors.
  • Provide respectful, patient-centered care respecting autonomy and dignity, regardless of protected status.
  • Utilize the nursing process to meet age-specific needs including biophysical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and discharge planning.
  • Follow appropriate decision-making steps, recognize priorities, and address issues proactively.
  • Administer blood and blood products per policy.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Incorporate patient rights and nursing ethics into practice.
  • Follow infection control standards and safety goals.
  • Delegate activities as appropriate under the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and Nursing Practice standards.
  • Support the hospital’s Nursing Practice Model and Magnet principles.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives and complete required competencies.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
  • Practice cost containment and assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school with a current NY RN license.
  • BSN required.
  • Knowledge of current nursing and health trends.
  • One year of acute care experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications as specified for certain units.
  • Specialty certifications or ongoing education in oncology or other areas as required.
  • Complete department orientation and de-escalation training if applicable.

Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment
