Edward-Elmhurst Health in Skokie, IL seeks a part-time Registered Nurse for Pre-Procedure Services. The role involves telephone education, pre-op coordination, and collaboration with anesthesia to ensure safe patient care.

Hybrid work becomes eligible after 6 months, with no weekends and daytime hours. Required IL nursing licensure, NLN-accredited education, BLS/CPR, and 5+ years in peri-anesthesia; EPIC experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Licensed registered nurse in IL.
• Graduate of NLN-accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• BLS/CPR certification required.
• Minimum 5 years of peri-anesthesia experience.
• Proficiency with EPIC is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide preoperative telephone education and instructions.
• Inform patients about pre-anesthetic evaluation process.
• Collaborate with anesthesia team to ensure safe perioperative care.
• Ensure required pre-surgical testing is completed.
• Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care on a designated unit.
• Guide unlicensed staff and maintain nursing standards.

Hourly Pay Range: $36.00 - $55.80 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

Position: Registered Nurse – Pre Procedure Services

Location: 4901 Searle Pkwy Skokie IL (eligible for hybrid after 6mths)

Part Time, 24 hours per week

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30a-5p, No calls or weekends

What you will need:

• License: Current professional Nursing Licensure in the State of IL required
• Education: Graduate of a NLN accredited school of nursing required; BSN strongly preferred
• Certification: BLS/CPR Certification for the Healthcare Provider required
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years-experience in peri anesthesia (PAT, Pre-op, PACU/Phase 2)
• Strong background in Pre-admission testing strongly preferred.
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Proficiency in EPIC Application

What you will do:

• Conducts patient interview via telephone prior to scheduled surgeries to obtain and share procedural information and directions
• Provides patient education via telephone related to upcoming surgery
• Informs patient of pre-anesthetic evaluation process
• Collaborates closely with the Anesthesia provider team
• Ensures required pre-surgical testing is completed prior to patient surgical appointment
• Integrates research findings into nursing practice
• Works cohesively with related nursing areas prior to surgical procedure
• Maintains knowledge of nursing procedures specific to different service lines
• Maintains knowledge and competency reflective of current standards of nursing practice.
• Promotes hospital quality improvement goals.
• Independently provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for a patient population on a specific unit
• Utilize the nursing process in planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient plan of care
• Guide and direct assigned unlicensed assistive personnel in delivering interdisciplinary patient care
• Communicate and collaborate with members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care
• Positively contributing to safety outcomes and promoting high quality patient experience
