Job summary

Camber Mental Health in Olathe, KS is hiring a Registered Nurse for Pediatric Mental/Behavioral Health (Night Shift). The role supports acute youth psychiatric patients through medication administration, health assessments, and care coordination in a residential hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid RN license in the state of practice.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • 3–6 months related experience and/or training.
  • BLS certification.
  • Strong understanding of child development and pediatric mental health disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing assessments and document within required timelines.
  • Monitor vital signs and ongoing health status per policy.
  • Administer medications, including psychotropic and PRN meds, and document accurately.
  • Maintain infection control and respond to injuries and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, guardians, and treatment teams.
  • Document all medical interventions and orders accurately.
  • Support dietary needs and report allergies with nutrition staff.
  • Participate in treatment planning, staff training, and patient education groups.
  • Assist with lab specimen collection and pharmacy coordination.
  • Follow all Camber procedures and protocols for safety and wellbeing.

The Registered Nurse supports the overall health and safety of acute youth psychiatric patients through medication administration, health assessments, infection control, documentation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and consultation with direct care staff.

What you will do:

  • Complete nursing assessments and documentation within required timelines.
  • Perform ongoing assessments and monitor vital signs per policy.
  • Administer medications, including psychotropic and PRN medications, and document accurately.
  • Monitor infection control, respond to injuries and emergencies, and provide first aid as needed.
  • Communicate with physicians, guardians, and treatment teams regarding patient health.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all medical interventions, orders, and records.
  • Partner with the staff nutritionist to meet patient dietary needs and report allergies.
  • Participate in treatment planning, staff training, and patient education groups.
  • Assist with lab specimen collection and ensure timely pharmacy coordination.
  • Support safety and wellbeing by following all KVC procedures and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • 3-6 months related experience and/or training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong understanding of child development and common pediatric mental health disorders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN) or Pediatric Nursing (CPN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree
  • Experience in school-based or educational health programs
  • Training in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and 504 plans
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
