Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center in Missouri is seeking a Clinical Nurse (RN) for the Minimally Invasive PCU/IMU. This full-time role offers days and nights, with sign-on bonus eligible up to $15,000 and opportunities to grow in a high-volume surgical and progressive care unit.

You will provide direct patient care in a 28-bed PCU/IMU, care for post-operative and intermediate care patients, and participate in teaching patients and families while maintaining safety

Qualifications

• Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation per nursing standards.
• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment and educates on post-treatment care.
• Develops and documents plans of care with the interprofessional team.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and monitor clinical status on PCU/IMU.
• Collaborate with team to ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Mentor and support new graduates and staff on the unit.

Join our fast-paced 28-bed Minimally Invasive Progressive Care Unit (PCU) , caring for post-operative and intermediate care patients. As a designated Bariatric Center of Excellence , we provide specialized care for patients recovering from bariatric surgery, hernia repairs, mastectomies, and other minimally invasive procedures.

Progressive Care/Intermediate Care (PCU/IMU) level patients

Frequent assessments and close monitoring

Occasional medical overflow patients

4900 General Surgery cares for a wide variety of patients including Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric, Plastic Reconstruction, Endocrine-oncology, Orthopedics and Opthalmology. The various surgical services that comprise our patient population make 4900 a dynamic floor on which to build your nursing skillset.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.

Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.

Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
