Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Perianesthesia Registered Nurse to deliver specialized nursing care across the perioperative continuum, from preoperative preparation to post-anesthesia recovery and discharge. The role emphasizes consistent assessment, individualized care, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient perioperative processes.

Responsibilities include evaluating patients, implementing care plans, and supervising ancillary staff.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• ACLS within six months for specified units (CC, ED, Endoscopy, CICU, Telemetry, Step-Down).
• NRP for Labor and Delivery; PALS within one year for ED.
• PALS and TNCC within one year for Emergency Department.

• Assesses each assigned patient, documents and evaluates their response to plan of care, and takes appropriate corrective action.
• Plans and implements the patient’s plan of care/standard of care and provides patient teaching using the plan of care/standard of care.
• Oversee all ancillary personnel for technical tasks.

The Perianesthesia Nursing Department provides specialized nursing care throughout the perioperative continuum, from preoperative preparation through post-anesthesia stabilization, recovery, and discharge or transfer. Through comprehensive assessment, continuous monitoring, individualized interventions, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the department supports safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.

Position Summary

Responsible for the delivery of nursing care within the assigned unit scope of practice following hospital policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assesses each assigned patient, documents and evaluates their response to plan of care, and takes appropriate corrective action.
• Plans and implements the patient’s plan of care/standard of care and provides patient teaching using the plan of care/standard of care.
• Oversee all ancillary personnel for technical tasks.

Required

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Experience in a specialty area will be considered. Experience specific to the unit/position may be required to maintain overall competency level of unit, as required by regulatory agency.
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• Within six months of hire into department, ACLS required for RNs in Critical Care, Emergency, Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehab, Intensive Care Unit and Step-Down, Telemetry Floats. NRP required for RNs in Labor and Delivery; and PALS required for RNs in Pediatrics; PALS and TNCC within one year for the Emergency Department.

Preferred

• One year of professional nursing experience.
• ACLS preferred in other units.
