Job summary

The Cooper Norcross Health PACU is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide immediate post-anesthesia care to a diverse patient population, from infants to geriatrics. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on the third floor, coordinating care and ensuring safe recovery and discharge planning.

The ideal candidate has a valid NJ RN license, BLS, ACLS, and preferably 1 year of critical care or PACU experience.

Qualifications

• 1 year of critical care experience or PACU preferred.
• Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing.
• NJ RN license, BLS, ACLS; PALS within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to PACU patients using the nursing process.
• Supervise and coordinate care for a group of patients.
• Communicate clearly with physicians and multidisciplinary team.
• Adhere to Cooper core values and policies.
• Monitor patient recovery and discharge readiness.

Short Description

The Registered RN is a professional care‑giver who, as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and who supervises and provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process including the therapeutic use of self.

Overview

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is where patients come to recovery from a surgical procedure. PACU is located on the third floor of the Pavilion and Kelemen building. There is also an area on Pavilion 2. Patients here can often be sent home following the procedure or are admitted to the hospital. This is based upon the procedure performed and the necessary recovery needed. If admitted the patient is transferred to the appropriate floor for continued recovery and discharge. The PACU sees infants to geriatrics. Here the patients are closely monitored while they are waking up from the anesthesia they received during the procedure. Depending on the procedure and the orders received from the physicians the patient will be discharged home or admitted to the hospital.

Experience Required

• 1-year Critical Care Required (PACU Preferred)

• Current PALS Certification (within 3 months of employment)

• Weekend, holiday, and call rotation required
