Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital seeks a Registered Nurse for the Outpatient Pain Clinic, Interventional Program, and Headache Program. You will provide coordinated, family-centered ambulatory nursing care for children and adolescents with complex pain and headache conditions, supporting interdisciplinary evaluation and treatment.

Qualifications

• BSN required.
• 2-3 years pediatric RN experience preferred.
• Ambulatory care, pain management, or neurology care is beneficial.
• Strong assessment, triage, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care across outpatient pain, headache, and interventional programs.
• Support clinic flow: intake, vitals, medication reconciliation, referrals, and testing coordination.
• Serve as primary nursing contact for calls, messages, questions, and triage needs.
• Reinforce treatment plans with patient/family education on pain management and self-care.
• Collaborate with physicians, APPs, psychologists, rehab staff, and other team members.
• Participate in care planning and coordination for complex patients.
• Coordinate procedural prep, education, and follow-up in the interventional program.
• Assist scheduling, waitlist management, and ambulatory workflow improvements.
• Maintain trauma-informed, patient-centered care in the outpatient setting.

Position Summary/Department Summary:

A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Outpatient Pain Clinic, Interventional Program, and Headache Program at Boston Children’s Hospital provides coordinated, family-centered ambulatory nursing care for children and adolescents with complex pain, headache, and related functional concerns. This role supports interdisciplinary evaluation and treatment, manages clinic and procedural workflows, triages patient concerns, and reinforces treatment plans using a biopsychosocial model of care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate patient care across the outpatient pain, headache, and interventional pain programs
• Support clinic flow, including patient intake, vital signs, medication reconciliation, follow-up needs, and coordination of testing, referrals, and specialty consultations
• Serve as a primary nursing contact for patient calls, portal messages, medication questions, symptom concerns, and triage needs
• Reinforce treatment plans and provide patient and family education related to pain management, headache care, procedures, recovery expectations, and self-management strategies
• Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, advanced practice providers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, and other clinical team members
• Participate in care planning, team communication, and coordination for medically and psychosocially complex patients
• Support procedural coordination within the interventional pain program, including preparation, patient education, and follow-up communication
• Assist with program operations such as scheduling coordination, waitlist management, and supporting efficient ambulatory workflows
• Promote a patient-centered, trauma-informed, and biopsychosocial approach to pain and headache treatment
• Working 5 eight hour days per week, 8:00am-4:30pm Monday and Friday, and 7:30am-4:00pm Tuesday-Thursday.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience:

• 2 - 3 years of pediatric RN experience required.
• Experience in ambulatory care, pain management, neurology/headache care, procedural care, or care coordination is beneficial
• Strong assessment, triage, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary outpatient setting
• Commitment to family-centered care and caring for children with complex medical and functional needs

Licensure/Certifications:

• Current Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
