Job Description:

We are currently seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Hospital Outpatient Department team. As the OR RN Circulator, you will have responsibility for patient safety by designing, coordinating, and delivering care to meet the needs of the surgical patient.

  • Performs in-depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.
  • Formulates collaborative and individualized care plans and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.
  • Implements, evaluates, and documents patient care interventions and their effectiveness in accordance with the care plan.
  • Prepares for and adapts procedures to meet individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Ensures all documentation and consents are complete prior to surgery.
  • Advocates for each patient’s safety.
  • Follows standard policies and procedures for surgical/procedural interventions, adapting for surgeon and anesthesia provider preferences.
  • Is ready and prepared for daily on-time case starts; maintains punctuality and work attendance.
  • Demonstrates compassion and caring for patients, their families, and surgical team members.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, side effects, regional anesthetic techniques, and moderate sedation.
  • Knows the location, care, and operation of surgical equipment/instruments.
  • Prepares and cleans OR suites before and between cases and after terminal cases, based on patient infection classification.
  • Positions, prepares skin, and prevents electrosurgical events during patient care in the operating room.
  • Provides postoperative patient hand-off reports to the next RN in the care continuum.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergencies in the operating room suite.
  • Is available to take emergency calls during weekdays and weekends as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of previous Operating Room experience required.
  • Current unrestricted Texas RN license.
  • Life Support Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association.
  • CNOR certification preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Proficient in OR nursing skills, with knowledge of developmental needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and stand without difficulty.
