The Operating Room (OR) Circulator - Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients in the OR of the Surgery Center.
This is a part-time (0.875 FTE) position, working Monday through Friday between 6:30 am and 5:00 pm, based at our Blaine Orthopedic Surgery Center.
Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices owned and led by physicians, aiming to give patients more control over their healthcare.
Essential Functions:
- Assess instrumentation, supplies, and equipment needs based on scheduled procedures, patient needs, and physician preferences.
- Assist in obtaining necessary equipment and supplies and preparing the surgical suite.
- Maintain an aseptic environment throughout the intraoperative process.
- Select supplies and instrumentation based on surgeon preference cards as needed.
- Provide care that considers the psychological, physiological, and spiritual needs of patients in an age-appropriate manner.
- Develop and revise individualized care plans based on nursing assessments and intraoperative needs.
- Monitor and document patient conditions and responses, communicating findings appropriately.
- Perform surgical counts and medication labeling per departmental policies.
- Administer medications and solutions as ordered, following policies.
- Handle surgical specimens and cultures appropriately and in compliance with policies.
- Support anesthesia and provide psychological and physiological support during intraoperative phases.
- Assist with cleaning the OR between cases and after the last case.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Follow correct site surgery procedures as per policies.
- Operate within the limits of the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, laws, policies, and standards of care.
- Evaluate post-operative patient status for injuries or hazards.
- Accurately complete patient records and charges in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth surgical processes and optimal patient outcomes.
- Report incidents through established channels.
- Participate in education and training, including precepting students.
- Manage resources to control costs effectively.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an NLN-accredited nursing school.
- BSN preferred; relevant education and experience considered.
- Current RN licensure in MN or WI (multi-state license).
- At least one year of OR experience in the last five years preferred.
- Membership in AORN preferred.
- Current BLS certification required or to be completed upon hire.
