Job summary

Qualifications

• Performs procedures and assessments per department policy.
• Obtains or delegates the nursing history and admission assessments, including pain screening.
• Evaluates patients for age-appropriate behavior and physiological norms.
• Conducts follow-up assessments to monitor progress and provide education.
• Administers treatments and medications; verifies physician orders.

• Performs and documents all procedures and assessments according to department policy.
• Obtains or delegates the obtaining of a nursing history and complete admission assessments, including pain screening.
• Evaluates patients for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, physiological norms, and signs of abuse or neglect.
• Conducts follow-up assessments and evaluations to monitor patient progress. Identifies patient teaching needs and provide education on a planned or spontaneous basis.
• Administers treatments and medications, interpret and verify physician orders, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Must have knowledge and skill in providing care and initiating procedures for patients with medical and/or surgical conditions
• Must be competent in the use of a computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, thermometer, glucose monitor, pulse oximeter, weight scale, ENT scope, personal protective equipment, and other patient care equipment necessary to perform required duties as appropriate to the scope of the practice
• Must tactfully handle delicate, sensitive, and sometimes, controversial issues related to the care of terminally ill patients and their families
• Must have good clinical judgment
• Must promote patient safety through effective communication
