Unit Specializes in: 5 West serves a variety of patient types including Heart Monitoring, Observation, General Medical/Surgical, Oncology/Chemo, Medical Psychiatry, and Palliative/Hospice. Each has unique care requirements. Our 39-bed unit provides individualized care plans to help patients return to their pre-hospitalization state or as close as possible. Join a collaborative medical team that discusses and determines the best care for each patient. Our RN ratio is typically 1:5 or 1:6 based on acuity. The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Registered Nurse (RN) is part of the Patient Care Services Team, responsible for delivering quality nursing care. The RN manages patient care activities for a group of patients and their families, using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with team members, including ancillary and support staff. The role involves leadership, partnership, teaching, and supervision.
