Job description

Position Summary

the Nurse Clinician 3 is responsible for providing complex skilled nursing care to patients. This may include both general population and infirmary settings. This position provides direct care to patients that have unique complex health conditions, or palliative/terminal illnesses that prevent them from residing in the General Population. The Nurse Clinician 3 will follow the nursing process and utilize the Correctional Nursing Standards in their practice. The Nurse Clinician 3 will utilize theoretical and evidence-based knowledge of experiences and responses to collaborate with patients to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate care.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $47.04/hour - $57.23/hour. The rate offered within this range will relate to years of licensure/credentialing as a registered nurse. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Those hired into a Nurse Clinician 3 - Weekend classification will receive an additional $10.00/hr for hours worked during qualifying (weekend) hours. These positions are scheduled for dedicated weekend hours and have different leave provisions located in sections 3.04, 4.03, and 5.02 in Section K of the Compensation Plan.

Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $3,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1500 on the first paycheck and $1500 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn’t disqualifying.)

To receive the bonus, a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in that position for a year. If the candidate leaves their position prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment.

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.

This position is FLSA Exempt.

Employees must maintain certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS) by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.

Healthcare employees in this classification must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.

This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand, sit, and move freely. This role will reposition patients, manipulate fine objects, and lift freely up to 40 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact at the time of application.

In addition to the license, minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Treating patient conditions with appropriate utilization of nursing protocols.
  • Developing, refining, and revising a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation.
  • Providing healthcare education to patients and staff.
