Job description

Serves on the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team providing evidence-based services in an intensive non-residential treatment and rehabilitative services in accordance with the fidelity model. This position is responsible for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of community care and have not been well supported in lower care options.

This position is located at the Orangeburg Area Department of Mental Health, 2319 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118.

Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center / OAMHC is an approved site of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which offers student loan repayment of up to $50,000 to employees of NHSC-approved sites. Applicants must be US citizens, licensed to practice independently in the state where hired, and have unpaid government or commercial school loans. A two-year service commitment is required. Qualification confirmation is the applicant's responsibility.

Who We Are

Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center is part of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, providing mental health services to individuals in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg, and Holly Hill Counties.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct services to ACT patients, including assessing health, social, psychiatric, and medical needs.
  • Administering scheduled intramuscular medications as prescribed, monitoring effects, and developing strategies to maximize medication adherence.
  • Engaging in health promotion, prevention, and education activities.
  • Ensuring patients are seen for medical/psychiatric appointments as needed.
  • Completing medical documentation accurately and in accordance with requirements.
  • Participating in clinical supervision and team meetings.
  • Complying with corporate policies and completing prior authorizations timely.
  • Pursuing professional development through continuing education and licensure.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing with 2 years' experience, or a 3-year diploma with 2 years' experience, or an associate degree with 2 years' experience as a registered nurse, including 1 year in community health and working with adults with SMI.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the SC Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications, clinical practices, legal principles, and counseling techniques.
