Job summary

St. David's South Austin Medical Center is seeking a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to assess infants, develop and evaluate care plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, accurate delivery of care.

You will attend deliveries, stabilize neonates, perform admissions, and participate in discharge planning, while communicating changes to providers. Texas RN licensure, BLS, and NRP are required; RNC-NIC and STABLE are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as an RN
  • Experience in an acute care setting – preferred
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred
  • Current State of Texas RN license or Compact license (within 90 days of hire)
  • BLS required by policy
  • NRP certification required by policy
  • RNC-NIC – preferred
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Neonatal Education Program Certification – preferred

Responsibilities

  • Attend deliveries and perform neonatal stabilization and admission assessments
  • Create and revise plan of care including discharge planning
  • Assess infants and communicate changes to NP or neonatologist
  • Administer medications and complete treatments per policy
  • Support transport teams during stabilization and transfer
  • Provide family education on homecare and support groups
  • Assist in high-risk deliveries and resuscitation
  • Delegate work to non-licensed staff per standards

Job Summary and Qualifications

As aNeonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN),you willbe responsibleforperformingpatientassessments, developing a plan of care,andimplementing and evaluatingcareoninfants.As a member of the interdisciplinary care team,you will workcollaboratively with the other members toassurethe safe andaccuratedelivery of care.

  • You will attend deliveries and performs neonatal stabilization and admission assessments of newborns
  • You will create a plan of care, including discharge plans, revise the plans based on the patients’ response to treatment and regularly evaluate plans for effectiveness
  • You will conduct on-going assessments of infants and communicate any changes to Nurse Practitioner or Neonatologist
  • You will administermedications and complete treatments according to hospital policy
  • You willassisttransport teamsin stabilization of infantsand provide necessary support and documentation tofacilitatethe transfer
  • You will providesupport andeducation materials to families onhomecare,treatments,adoptionand support groups
  • You willassistin high-risk deliveries andassistNurse Practitioner with resuscitation
  • You will delegate work appropriately to non-licensed staffin accordance withstandards of practice
Requirements
Experience

License and Certifications
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License Texas license must be obtained within90 daysof hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)requiredas per St. David’s Healthcare policy
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)certificationrequiredas per St. David’s Healthcare policy
  • Registered Nurse, Certified in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC) – preferred
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Neonatal Education Program Certification – preferred
