Job summary

St. David's Medical Center, part of St. David’s HealthCare, seeks an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) in Newborn Nursery to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for newborns.

You will collaborate with Labor and Delivery, obstetric, and neonatal teams to create individualized care plans and ensure timely admission assessments and discharge planning. The role requires a BSN, Texas RN license or Compact license with Texas licensure within 90 days, and BLS and NRP certifications.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience as a staff nurse in an acute care setting – preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current State of Texas RN license or Compact RN license; Texas license within 90 days if Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Collaborate with Labor and Delivery, Obstetricians, and Neonatal staff to develop patient care plans.
  • Complete admission assessment and discharge planning within 2 hours of admission.
  • Initiate critical pathway during admission and update as needed.
  • Identify and report changes in patient condition to unit personnel.
  • Document resolutions of patient problems and communicate unresolved issues.
  • Accurately administer and document medications.
  • Evaluate and modify the plan of care as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient teaching and revise the teach plan accordingly.

Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in Newborn Nursery, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients. You will work alongside Labor and Delivery nurses, Obstetricians, and Pediatric/Neonatology staff to develop an individualized patient care plan that follows hospital policies and procedures.

  • You will complete an admission assessment, including discharge planning, that is accurately documented within 2 hours of patient admission
  • You will initiate critical pathway during admission to plan nursing care, and will review and update pathway as evidenced by appropriate interventions and nursing care documentation
  • You will identify changes in patient condition and report these changes to the appropriate unit personnel
  • You will document resolutions of identified patient problems and communicate unresolved problems to appropriate unit personnel
  • You will accurately administer and document medications
  • You will evaluate the plan of care to determine need for modifications

Experience
