Job summary

Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center Neonatology team seeks an experienced Physician Assistant to join our overnight coverage for a Level II NICU, with additional duties in the well-baby nursery and delivery room.

You will manage overnight NICU care, collaborating with attendings and the multidisciplinary team; after orientation you will be credentialed to practice independently within Neonatology, with Respiratory Therapist support for deliveries and overnight Neonatology backup.

Qualifications

  • BLS and NRP certifications required.
  • Two years of Physician Assistant experience preferred.
  • PA licensure in PA and national PA certification required.
  • Experience in NICU or neonatal care is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee overnight NICU patient care in a Level II NICU.
  • Coordinate care with attendings, peers, and neonatology team; manage well-baby nursery and delivery room duties.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center Neonatology team is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our collaborative team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to practice in a Level II NICU with additional responsibilities in the well-baby nursery and delivery room.

The Physician Assistant will manage and coordinate overnight care for NICU patients, working both independently and collaboratively with attending physicians, peers, and members of the multidisciplinary care team to provide high-quality care to critically ill and newborn patients.

An in-house Respiratory Therapist is available for all deliveries, and a backup Neonatologist is available overnight for consultation. The unit averages 1,000–1,500 deliveries per year.

Following a structured orientation period, the Physician Assistant will be credentialed to practice independently within the scope of Neonatology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania
  • National certification in Pennsylvania or in another state with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Physician Assistant
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • NICU or neonatal critical care experience
  • Two (2) years of experience within Neonatology or a related acute care specialty
