Summary

Certain specialty positions and certain grades may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. If selected for an eligible position, you must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount, and eligibility period are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office.

Duties

This is an open continuous announcement (OCA) to fill multiple Registered Nursing vacancies at the VA New York Harbor Health Care System, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens facilities. Eligible candidates will be referred as long as there are vacancies, across areas such as Emergency, OR, GI/Endo, Med-Surg, ICU, Dialysis, Ambulatory Surgery, Long Term Care, Mental Health, Primary Care, Oncology, and others.

  • Provide age-specific care for adults of all ages, promoting independence and involving family or caregivers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in patient data collection, assessment, and documentation.
  • Maintain practice-specific competencies and mandatory reviews.
  • Apply advanced knowledge and skills in delivering care to patients with various needs.
  • Delegate assignments appropriately and evaluate quality of care.
  • Develop and implement care plans, document goals, and ensure medication safety.
  • Work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Utilize automated information systems securely and appropriately.
Work Schedule

Multiple shifts available, including full-time and intermittent, to be discussed at interview.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • All applicants are subject to drug screening and background checks.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Participation in pre-employment processes and compliance with vaccination requirements, including COVID-19, is mandatory.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Must be a graduate of an approved nursing program and hold a full, unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory. Foreign graduates require validation of degree equivalency.

Grade Determinations: Detailed criteria for Nurse I, II, and III levels based on education and experience are provided, including scope, education, and experience requirements for each level.
