Summary
Certain specialty positions and grades may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. If selected for an EDRP-eligible position, you must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit your application within four months of appointment. Approval, including award amount and eligibility period, is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office.
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency such as ACEN or CCNE at the time of completion.
- OR individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree may become registered nurses prior to completing the program.
- Upon obtaining a state license, the individual may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment upon graduation.
- Foreign graduates must possess a current, unrestricted registration; foreign degrees higher than an associate's require degree equivalency validation from a recognized agency like ICD.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure, with possible extensions.
- Grade Determinations: Refer to the online assessment for specific scope, education, and experience criteria for each nursing level (Nurse I-III, Nurse II, Nurse III).

Duties
- This is an Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for multiple RN vacancies at VA New York Harbor Health Care System facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
- Eligible candidates will be referred as vacancies arise, including but not limited to areas like Emergency, OR, GI/Endo, Med-Surg, SICU, MICU, ICU, Dialysis, Ambulatory Surgery, Long Term Care, Mental Health, Primary Care, Oncology.
