The RN provides nursing care via the nursing process, ensures safety, and collaborates with the team to meet patient needs. New graduates are welcome, with a Transition to Practice program to support clinical reasoning and competency development.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in good standing required (Virginia or Compact).
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Oncology care course or Sentara-approved provider card within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process and critical thinking.
• Coordinate care, teach and promote health, and collaborate with the care team.
• Care for Med Surg patients including diverse conditions and post-acute needs.

The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.Department Overview: We are a varied Med-Surg mixed unit. Our population touches on all aspects of medical patients. In addition to caring for oncological patients, we also care for patients with CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, Sickle Cell, and end of life to name a few. You will become knowledgeable in procedures such as wound vacs, high risk medication infusions, telemetry, trach care, chest tubes, peritoneal dialysis, etc. We encourage our staff members to join hospital committees to share ideas that help with the care they provide.
