Job Summary

Responsible for providing education and training to patients, staff and community regarding breastfeeding.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs rounds on breastfeeding mothers to reinforce and augment teaching.

Follows up with telephone call to patient within three to four days after discharge.

• Function as resource person to patients, physicians, nurses, hospital staff in general, and to HME for their breastfeeding product station.
• Coordinates and implements pre-natal breastfeeding classes, as well as provides staff education and information.
• Conducts home/hospital visits and/or continued telephone consultation after discharge as warranted.
• Maintains documentation and statistics.
• Reviews and evaluates breastfeeding policies, procedures, equipment, videos, products and literature with recommendations as necessary.
• Maintains communication with community support groups and refers patients to them.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State RN Licensure and RI State Lactation Consultant Certificate required. RN- IBCLC is also required.
