Job summary

Care New England Health System is seeking an obstetric nurse to provide direct and indirect patient care within a defined group of patients, following the hospital's patient care philosophy.

This role requires RI RN licensure, BLS, and ACLS/NRP credentials, with a focus on documentation, family education, and coordinated care. You will monitor patients, educate families, and participate in professional development to support perinatal care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• RI State Licensure required, current and active.
• BLS certification required; ACLS and NRP preferred.
• Experience in obstetrics or labor and delivery is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under approved protocol and adjust plans to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Implement goal-directed nursing care for obstetrical patients using the nursing process.
• Monitor patient condition and report changes to the physician or supervisor.
• Educate patients and families regarding condition, treatment, and discharge planning.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing nursing care to patients, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. 1. Provides direct patient care, including examination and treatment under an
   approved protocol. Evaluates outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as
   needed to ensure optimal patient care.
2. 2. Utilizes the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for obstetrical patients.
3. 3. Monitors medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Physician, Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor any patient care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
4. 4. Functions well in emergency situations according to policies and procedures. Educates patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow up examinations if needed. Seeks feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
5. 5. Facilitates a team approach to the patient plan of care, incorporating all disciplines involved.
6. 6. Communicates with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
7. 7. Maintains patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately and completely.
8. 8. Provides clinical leadership for other staff members and participate in the orientation of new personnel.
9. 9. Develops, maintains and enhances necessary skills to work with obstetrical patients.
10. 10. Assumes responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in-services and/or reading journals.
11. 11. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State Licensure is also required. Must have and maintain current licensure in the State of Rhode Island. BLS Required.,
2. Labor and Delivery Requirements: BLS, ACLS, NRP.
