Job summary

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is seeking a part-time Kidney Dialysis Registered Nurse in Watertown, SD to deliver hemofiltration and dialysis care in accordance with standards and policies. The role includes patient education, documentation, and coordination with the Nephrology team.

The position supports a 0.5 status schedule, with wage range $32.00–$49.46 per hour, Mon-Sat. Requires SD RN licensure and a nursing degree; prior dialysis or med/surg experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in South Dakota; eligible for Minnesota license.
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree from an approved RN program.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and clinical nursing skills.
  • Experience in nephrology or dialysis settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate interdepartmental care for dialysis patients.
  • Assist with training of new staff.
  • Participate in CQI audits to improve patient outcomes.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for the dialysis unit.
  • Use nursing process for documentation and patient assessment.
  • Educate patients and families per plan.
  • Monitor patients and report changes to the Nephrology team.
  • Operate and monitor the RO water system.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Receive, transcribe, and communicate physician orders.

Part-time Kidney Dialysis-Registered Nurse

Position Summary

This part-time (0.5 Status) position assists with the planning and evaluation of Hemodialysis services and provides nursing care for dialysis patients in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, licensure, and scope of practice. Wage: $32.00-$49.46. Mon-Sat Schedule. Delivers hemodialysis services to chronic outpatients and will provide treatment to inpatients and acute patients as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitates the coordination, and integration of interdepartmental care and services provided to dialysis patients.
  • Assists with training of new staff members.
  • Participates in the department's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program ensuring staff participation in the process and identifying opportunities to improve patient outcomes. This can include daily, weekly, and monthly audits.
  • Assist with the process of ensuring the department is in compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in providing care and including the process in documentation, identifying unusual conditions, and utilizing initiative judgment to carry out appropriate responses.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the Nephrology team and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction.
  • Observes, assesses patients, records significant conditions, and reactions, notifies supervisor of patient's condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents throughout the progression of care.
  • Operates and monitors Reverse Osmosis (RO) water system.
  • Administers prescribed medications, and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and scope of practice.
  • Receives, transcribes, and communicates physician orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education And/or Experience

Bachelors in nursing or Associates Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in an approved accredited Registered Nurse Program. Minimum of one-year experience in a medical/surgical unit is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Holds or is eligible for current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of South Dakota and may be required to apply for a Minnesota RN license.

Required Skills And Abilities

Strong interpersonal skills are required. Must be able to utilize the nursing process and the guidelines established by regulatory agencies in the assessing, planning, delivery and evaluation of care to patients. Must be able to competently perform all technical nursing skills within the framework of licensure and scope of practice. Must have the ability to deal tactfully with hospital personnel, patients, families, physicians, and the general public.
