Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

Shift Details & Pay

This is a PRN position for the night shift – 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. PRN 1 is a base wage + 10% differential. The RN must work 5 shifts per 8‑week schedule plus 5 additional shifts per year for a total of 18 shifts per year.

Hourly rate: $33.38 – $79.73 (actual rate depends on experience).

Scope of Practice
  • Assess, recognize and address patients’ psychological & physical needs
  • Foster quality of care with the best interests of patients and their families in mind
  • Communicate compassionately and effectively
  • Assist in developing individualized treatment plans
  • Comply with evaluation, treatment and documentation guidelines
  • Oversee care delivered by LPNs and/or CNAs
  • Participate in clinical team conferences
  • Follow hospital, regulatory and professional guidelines, policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
  • BSN degree* from an accredited program required within 4 years of hire unless 15 years of acute care service has been demonstrated.
  • Failure to obtain a BSN within this time frame may result in suspension or termination of employment. (Note: Nurses employed on or before 1 Sep 2014 with only an ASN/ADN are exempt; nurses hired 2 Sep 2014‑15 Apr 2019 have 5 years/60 months to obtain a BSN.)
  • Current State of Montana RN license
  • BLS certification upon hire
  • ACLS required within 9 months of hire
  • PALS required within 9 months of hire
  • TNCC within 12 months of hire – must maintain TNCC/ATCN or equivalent recognized by ACS
Preferred Qualifications
  • National certification in area of practice
Key Competencies & Physical Requirements
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient‑focused outcomes.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, government regulations and professional journals.
  • Write reports and effectively present information to managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Perform basic arithmetic and data interpretation (e.g., rates, ratios, percentages, bar graphs).
  • Solve practical problems and apply common‑sense understanding to instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Regular attendance required; work during scheduled shifts.
  • Ongoing need to see, read labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors and identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients and visitors.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment; frequent use of computer and typing for documentation.
  • Lift and transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, carry supplies and equipment (often heavy items).
  • Walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining/distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
  • Stand or remain stationary for extended periods as needed.
