Primary Function

Responsible for rendering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

ICU Registered Nurses are expected to have:

• I.V. certification
• The ability to recognize all significant cardiac arrhythmia
• A clear understanding of symptoms and clinical findings for myocardial infarction and its complications
• An understanding of the needs of critically-ill medical and surgical patients
• A thorough knowledge of the psychological as well as medical needs of patients and the importance of maintaining a noise- and anxiety-free environment
• Competence in operating all resuscitation equipment
• BLS certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; new graduates will complete ACLS within one year of hire
• Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and basics of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping
• Attendance and completion of yearly competency assessments
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Rhode Island RN licensure
