Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

Scope / Responsibilities

• Assess, recognize and address patients psychological and physical needs
• Foster quality of care with the best interests of patients and their families in mind

• Comply with evaluation, treatment and documentation guidelines
• Oversee care delivered by LPNs and/or CNAs

Minimum Qualifications

BSN Degree* from an accredited program required within 4 years unless 15 years of acute care service. Failure to obtain a BSN degree within this time frame may result in suspension or termination of employment. Nurses employed by the Hospital on or before September 1, 2014 with only an ASN/ADN, will be exempt from the requirement to obtain a BSN. Any nurse hired by the hospital from September 2, 2014 through April 15, 2019 will have 5 years / 60 months from date of hire to obtain a BSN. Any nurse who takes legally protected leave during any of the completion periods may have the period extended by a comparable amount of time.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current State of Montana Registered Nurse License
• BLS Certification upon hire
• ACLS required within 9 months of hire for all ICU/ED RN’s
• TNCC or TCAR within 12 months of transfer or hire for all ICU/ED/RNs
• Must maintain TNCC/TCAR or an equivalent that is recognized by the American College of Surgeons

Preferred Experience

Critical Care Experience – highly preferred.

Essential Duties / Functional Requirements

• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient-focused outcomes.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Read, analyze, interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Write reports. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Compute rates, ratios, and percentages and draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Maintain regular attendance during scheduled shifts.
• Perform tasks that require seeing, reading information, labels, assessing patient needs, operating monitors, identifying equipment and supplies; frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients and visitors; manual dexterity for manipulating equipment; necessary lifting and transferring of patients; navigating busy rooms and equipment; standing in stationary position for extended periods.
