Job summary

Rutherford Regional Health System is recruiting a Registered Nurse for the Inpatient Float Pool. The role involves serving across ICU, ED, and Med Surg/Tele units, delivering comprehensive nursing care and maintaining patient safety on a busy inpatient unit.

Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina or compact state RN license
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1–3 years of ICU, ED, and Med Surg/Tele experience; cross-training may be provided
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required or obtainable

Responsibilities

  • Completes initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Performs assessments across physical, psychosocial, environmental, and discharge needs.
  • Executes planned care including medications, specimens, and treatments.
  • Documents patient care accurately in chart.
  • Monitors patient status and communicates with care team and family.
  • Assists with activities of daily living and mobility.
  • Coordinates care across units and handles transfers and discharges.
  • Provides patient and family education tailored to age and culture.
  • Supports orientation and training of other staff as directed.

As a member of our Inpatient Services Float Pool at Rutherford Regional Health System, you will serve as a valuable resource nurse across several key patient care areas, including ICU, Emergency Department, and Med Surg/Tele. Float Pool nurses play an important role in helping maintain safe, responsive care across these units while gaining broad clinical exposure, variety in their day-to-day work, and the opportunity to grow across multiple specialties. How you'll contribute


  • Completes initial and ongoing assessments.

  • Assessments include physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age appropriate, cultural and discharge planning needs.

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

  • Documents patient care given.

  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient. Employee supervises others. Assists with orientation and training of others as directed.

What we're looking for


  • Current North Carolina or compact state RN license required

  • Associate's degree in Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. 1-3 years preferred and recent experience in ICU, ED, and Med Surg/Tele. Cross training may be provided.


Additional requirements include


  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to respond to and perform in emergent situations.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • Handle with Care to be received within 30 days of orientation and kept annually
