Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC is seeking an experienced RN for float duties across several EDs, providing patient-centered care at the bedside. The role supports flexible scheduling with a nights shift pattern and varied shifts per need.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program and be licensed as an RN in SC or a compact state.
  • Minimum 2 years emergency department nursing experience; BSN preferred; ADN/ Diploma holders must initiate BSN within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients in the ED using the nursing process.
  • Float between multiple EDs including Main Hospital ED, Ashley River Tower ED, Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital ED, Psychiatric ED, and freestanding EDs across Charleston.

Job Description Summary

MUSC Charleston’s Float Team offers RNs flexible scheduling and float differential pay while caring for diverse patient populations across all ages in specialized zones. RNs in this specialized zone will float between multiple emergency departments: Main Hospital ED (1 West), Ashley River Tower ED (Chest Pain Center), Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital ED, the Psychiatric ED (DPod) and freestanding EDs throughout Charleston.

Job Description

Hours per week: Vary based on preference, Nights (waitlist for days)

.6 FTE: 2-12 hour shifts/week


.75 FTE: 2-12 hour shifts/week one & 3-12 hour shifts/week two


.9 FTE: 3-12 hour shifts/week


Job Summary/Purpose

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.


Minimum Training and Education:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and aminimum of two years of emergency department work experience as a registered nurse is required. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to initiate education for BSN within 2 years and complete within four years of hire date. Employees are required to sign an agreement regarding the education requirement.


Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Some positions require certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
