Job Description

The Staff Nurse Inpatient reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM), adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care to acutely ill patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patients, families, and healthcare team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities

1. Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements individualized care plans, coordinates care delivery, and evaluates progress.
2. Directs care and determines the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
3. Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and staff to create documented care plans focused on outcomes and communication.
4. Participates in shared governance, committees, and unit projects.
5. Evaluates and documents patient responses to nursing interventions and individualizes care plans based on findings.
6. Utilizes research and evidence-based practices to guide clinical decisions.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Current Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Strong analytical abilities
• Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) accepted with a commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of employment
