Job summary

St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS, seeks a Registered Nurse to join our ICU team.

You will collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care for critically ill patients, applying the nursing process and state guidelines to promote safety and optimal outcomes. The role requires an active RN license, BLS/ACLS, NIHSS, and at least one year of ED experience, with TNCC or TCAR within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Must have Associate Degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or be endorsed.
• Active and unencumbered RN license in Kansas.
• BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NIHSS certification required.
• Minimum one year of RN ED experience.
• TNCC or TCAR within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Develop and implement care plans with the interdisciplinary team.
• Perform IVs, wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collection.
• Document status and outcomes accurately; use IT to communicate and support decisions.
• Advocate for patient safety and provide family education.
• Teach and evaluate patient/family learning.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN, you will assume responsibility for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient, advancing modern nursing through compassionate care.

• Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data.
• Evaluates patient’s response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcome. Develop and implement patient plan of care and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections. Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
• Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner. Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
• Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect the health and safety and rights of each patient. Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family learning readiness, needs, and ability.
• Provide teaching and evaluate effectiveness of teaching.

0.01- PRN requires 5 shifts (12 hr shifts) in 6 weeks

PRN diff is 10% of base pay

Job Requirements

Required

• Associates Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
• Active and unencumbered RN License in state of employment
• BLS from the American Heart Association
• ACLS from the American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• One year RN ED experience
• TNCC or TCAR within one year of hire
• Physical Requirements: Medium Work exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly

Where You'll Work

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St. Catherine Hospital is an eight-bed ICU. We staff an intensivist 24 hours per day, we care for a wide range of patients from sepsis, COPD exacerbation, respiratory distress, pneumonia, heat failure, GI bleed, renal failure and overdose. We take care of patients with art lines, central lines, intubations, procedures and telemetry monitoring for floor patients as well. We occasionally receive over flow from the med/surg floor if they are full.
