Job summary

Mid-South Endoscopy Center in Columbia, TN is seeking a PRN Admitting and PACU Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive peri-procedural care for EGD and colonoscopy patients Monday through Friday.

The RN will assess, prepare, monitor, recover, educate, and coordinate care across the peri-procedural experience, including pre-procedure assessments, IV access, sedation, and discharge readiness.

Responsibilities

• Pre-procedure assessments and obtaining patient history, verifying medications and allergies.
• Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures and establish IV access when needed.
• Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, consciousness, airway status before and after procedures.
• Administer medications and moderate sedation per physician orders and policy.
• Recognize and respond to complications or changes in patient condition promptly.
• Provide post-procedure recovery care and determine readiness for discharge.

Description

Mid-South Endoscopy Center is a free standing outpatient surgical facility performing upper(EGD) and lower(colonoscopy) endoscopy procedures.

We are currently searching for a PRN ADMITTING AND PACU REGISTERED NURSE to work as needed Monday - Friday who can provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures including EGD and colonoscopy. The RN will be responsible for patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, recovery, education, and coordination of care throughout the peri-procedural experience.

• Performs pre-procedure assessments, obtain patient history, verify medications/allergies, and ensure informed consent and require documentation is complete.
• Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures and establish IV access as appropriate.
• Monitor patients before, and after procedures, including vital signs, cardiac rhythm, oxygen saturation, level of consciousness, and airway status.
• Administer medications and moderate sedation according to physicians orders, facility policies, and nursing standards.
• Recognize and respond promptly to complications or changes in patient condition.
• Provide post-procedure recovery care and determine readiness for discharge according to established criteria.
• Educate patients and families regarding procedure, medications, post-procedures care, dietary restrictions, warning signs and follow-up instructions.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists, anesthesia providers, surgical staff, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Follow infection prevention, patient safety, medication safety, and endoscope reprocessing standards.
• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care with maintaining a high level of professionalism and clinical judgement.
