Registered Nurse – Part‑Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool
Schedule: Part‑Time |Nights
Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned patient care units while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence‑based, and cost‑effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high‑quality patient outcomes and may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel. Care is delivered in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.
- Float Pool Differential: Additional $5.00 per hour

Essential Functions:
- Performs and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions and identify healthcare needs.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, organizational policies, and professional standards.
- Monitors patient responses to treatments and medications, identifies changes in condition, and communicates findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to assigned nursing personnel to ensure safe, therapeutic, and high‑quality patient care.
- Educates patients and families regarding medications, procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self‑care strategies.
- Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Supports patient safety and compliance with infection prevention, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Floats to appropriate patient care areas based on organizational needs, competency, licensure, certifications, and scope of practice.
- Participates in professional development activities, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence‑based practice programs.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations and changes in patient condition within the scope of practice and competency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and modify plans of care using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards of care, evidence‑based practice, and medication administration.
- Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical record systems, automated medication dispensing systems, and Microsoft Windows-based applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and skill in the operation of clinical equipment, including intravenous therapy devices, central line equipment, pulse oximetry monitors, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, hemodynamic monitoring equipment, and other equipment required to provide patient care safely.
- Strong clinical, organizational, communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, healthcare professionals, and other team members.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, patient rounding practices, and EKG education requirements as applicable.
- Ability to interpret EKG rhythms and findings based on assigned patient populations and departmental requirements.
- Ability to float to appropriate departments based on patient care needs, clinical competency, licensure, certifications, and scope of practice.
Education:
- Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
- One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
- Licensure and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the specific department, specialty area, patient population, facility, or state in which the position is located.
