Job summary

Westminster Surgery Center, part of United Surgical Partners International (USPI), seeks a motivated PRN Registered Nurse First Assistant to join our busy perioperative team in Westminster, MD. You will function as an RN first assistant during operative and invasive procedures, delivering safe, patient-family centered care across the perioperative continuum.

Key responsibilities include assisting surgeons, preparing patients, monitoring vitals, and educating families.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and RNFA program.
• CNOR certification required.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Current RN licensure in state of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years' RNFA experience.
• Ambulatory surgery experience strongly preferred.
• Preoperative training and OR experience required.
• Scrub and circulating nurse capabilities expected.
• Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries.
• Prepare patients for surgery.
• Provide patient care and support.
• Administer medications.
• Perform surgical tasks such as controlling bleeding, suturing, draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
• Prepare supplies and operate room equipment.
• Position patient on the operating table and monitor vitals.
• Educate patient and family about operation and aftercare.
• Conduct postoperative assessments.
• Monitor for pain or complications after surgery.
• Review patient history and health assessments.
• Communicate patient health status to family.
• Monitor surgical site healing or infection.
• Participate in research as needed.
• Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures and throughout the perioperative continuum in accordance with scope of practice credentials, privileges, experience, education, and competency verification.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries
• Prepare patients for surgery
• Provide patient care and support
• Administer medications
• Practice surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding and suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure, and handling tissue
• Prepare all necessary supplies
• Position and prepare the patient on the operating table
• Monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
• Perform post-operative assessments
• Monitor patient after surgery for pain and/or complications
• Study patient history and health assessments
• Communicate health of patient to family members
• Monitor surgery site for healing or infection
• Participate in research
• Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required

Required Skills:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and an accredited RNFA program.
• Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a RNFA required.
• Previous experience in Ambulatory Surgery strongly preferred.
• Basic and advanced preoperative training, operating room experience required.
• Can perform scrub and circulating nurse roles.
• Excellent understanding of multiple surgical procedures.
• Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.

Pay Range: Min: $36.22 to Max: $54.33/hour
