Job summary

St. David's Georgetown Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Critical Care Facility Float Pool. You will assess patients on admission, develop and revise care plans, and document outcomes.

You will supervise non‑licensed staff, administer meds, and manage IV therapies per hospital policy. Responsibilities include reviewing orders, communicating changes to the team, and providing education to patients and families.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of ICU and/or ED nursing experience.
  • ADN or BSN from an accredited program (BSN preferred).
  • Texas RN license or Compact license (with 90 days to obtain Compact if applicable).
  • BLS required; ACLS within 12 months; NIHSS within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Perform admissions assessments and develop a plan of care.
  • Evaluate and revise plans with patient response to treatment.
  • Document nursing interventions and patient status.
  • Provide patient/family education on care and treatments.
  • Administer medications and complete treatments per policy.
  • Perform venipuncture and manage IV therapies.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Facility Float Pool, you will be responsible for performing patient assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating care. You will be responsible for directing, monitoring and evaluating the care delegated to non-licensed personnel on the team.

  • Perform and document patient assessments at the time of admission.
  • Create a plan of care, including discharge plans, revise the plans based on the patient’s response to treatment and regularly evaluate plans for effectiveness.
  • Document the outcomes of nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Provide educational materials to patients and families on care and treatments.
  • Administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy.
  • Perform venipuncture, administer and maintain IV fluids and IV medications.
  • Review all new physician orders, ensure that orders are carried out and documented correctly, and verify that other departments are notified of orders and services.
  • Notify the Charge Nurse and/or physician of changes in patient status.
  • Provide accurate and relevant patient information reports to the on‑coming shift to ensure continuity of care.
Experience
  • 2 years of nursing experience in an Intensive Care Unit and/or Emergency Department.
Education
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited Nursing program, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
License and Certifications
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required as per St. David’s Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required as per St. David’s Healthcare policy – within 12 months of hire.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required per St. David’s Healthcare Policy – within 90 days of hire.
