The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides care that addresses the specific needs of age groups from infant to elderly and is also individualized to a variety of needs specific to impairments, such as hearing, sight, substance abuse, non-English speaking, and potential victims of abuse. The Emergency Department RN incorporates knowledge and understanding of our commitment to patient rights, our mission, vision, and values into nursing practice at BMC South.
The Emergency Department RN assumes full and ultimate responsibility for the quality of nursing care she/he provides to individuals and groups. Responsibilities include health maintenance, teaching, counseling, collaborative planning, restoration of optimal functioning, and/or ensuring a dignified death. The RN may delegate nursing tasks to other registered nurses and healthcare personnel, but retains full responsibility for patient outcomes.
The RN must have excellent assessment, clinical, organizational, and computer skills, along with charge capabilities. Ability to lift, transfer, and move patients is required. Must communicate effectively in English and be able to perform mathematical computations for treatment protocols.
