Job summary

Weiser Memorial Hospital is seeking an Emergency Department Registered Nurse to join our team on a part-time basis. The ED RN provides professional nursing care, triage, and care coordination in a high-value environment, ensuring timely, accurate treatment for all patients.

Responsibilities include head-to-toe assessments, patient and family education, and precise documentation. Idaho RN licensure and BLS are required; ACLS/PALS/ENPC/ TNCC may be pursued on hire with timelines.

Qualifications

  • RN license in Idaho required.
  • ED nursing experience preferred (3+ years) within last 48 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department with timely, accurate care.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassess as per policy across all ages.
  • Triage patients to assign appropriate care priorities.
  • Educate patients and families on pain management and care plans.
  • Maintain nursing documentation of histories, treatments and responses.

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care within the Emergency Department and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Determines priorities of care based on the physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Can triage safely, rapidly, and accurately every patient that enters the emergency care system. Communicates with ED physicians regarding changes in patients’ status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories.
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
  • Proficient in technical aspects of job (equipment uses); understands and follows safety/security procedures.
  • Assures proper care and functioning of equipment.
  • Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived test results.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
  • Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  • Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues IV fluids.
  • Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, patients, family members and physicians.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with three (3) years registered nurse experience within the last 48 months, and two (2) years of critical care or emergency nursing experience preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse license within the state of Idaho.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS certified upon hire recommended. Obtained within six (6) months of hire required.
  • PALS certified upon hire recommended. Obtained within eight (8) months of hire required.
  • NRP recommended within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • ENPC encouraged.
  • TNCC recommended within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • CEN or CERN strongly encouraged after 2 years of Emergency Department experience.
  • Works a minimum of every other weekend, rotates holidays and shares equally in on-call coverage with other unit nurses as needed.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and cope with potentially stressful situations.

  • Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with principles for service excellence.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide – figure rates, ratio, and percent).
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
