Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale, IL seeks an experienced registered nurse to join the Emergency Department. You will conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, develop care plans, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and monitor patient progress through discharge.

The role requires an RN license, BLS, ACLS/PALS per unit, and the ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced setting. You will educate patients, document care, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with standards while

Qualifications

  • Emergency department skills defined by unit.
  • High-level abstract reasoning to assess patients and revise plans.
  • Proficient with Windows-based systems and hospital software.
  • ACLS/PALS/NRP as required by unit specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to evaluate patients' physical, mental and emotional health.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care among physicians, nurses, social workers and therapists.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust plans based on responses and outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and the healthcare team.
  • Document patient information accurately in medical records.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely per protocols.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses and care plans.
  • Supervise and direct nursing and support staff to ensure care standards.
  • Evaluate discharge planning needs and coordinate transitions from hospital to home or another facility.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and policies.
  • Resolve issues related to patient care, staffing and resources.

Job Description:
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to evaluate patients' physical, mental, and emotional health.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings and patient needs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care by facilitating collaboration among healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists.
  • Monitor patient progress, regularly review, and adjust care plans based on patient responses and outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure everyone is informed and involved in the care process.
  • Document patient information accurately, including assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes in the patient's medical record.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely, ensuring adherence to protocols and patient safety.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, and care plans to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of nursing and support staff, ensuring adherence to care standards and evaluating performance.
  • Evaluate discharge planning needs and coordinate patients' discharge requirements to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home or another care facility.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Address and resolve issues related to patient care, staffing, and resource allocation, implementing solutions to improve processes and outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skills required to work in the emergency department as defined by unit
  • Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patients, evaluate interventions, and revise the plan of care according to patient outcomes
  • Basic computer skills – must be able to navigate Microsoft Windows-based programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute-care nursing, knowledge, and skills
  • Able to navigate and manage multiple priorities

  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and valid AHA Advanced life support certification (ACLS, PALS, NRP) per specialty/unit requirements
  • Internship and/or preceptorship dependent upon nursing experience
  • Unit-specific competencies met per orientation pathway
  • The majority of employees will require a minimum of 12 months after orientation completed to achieve proficiency
Education:
  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]
  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
Work Experience:
  • 1+ 12 lead ekg experience [Required]
  • 1+ acute hospital experience [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Preferred]

  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) [Preferred]

  • Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
  • Trauma Nurse Course Certified (TNCC) [Preferred]
