Registered Nurse, Certified Diabetes Educator, Endocrinology, 40 Hours (Days) - New

Position Summary
In accordance with the American Nurses Association’s “Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice,” the registered nurse, under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, is responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The RN is a staff nurse in the clinic with a focus on diabetes education. The role includes nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and care coordination for patients and families. The RN is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal outcomes, following hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice, including the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education by the ADA. The RN collaborates with educators and providers on program development, implementation, marketing, and review; provides nursing care as needed; and participates in developing educational materials. Collaborates with staff RNs and CDEs to maintain ADA certification.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
Standards of Care

Serves as an expert clinician and consultant, providing patient care as a staff nurse and diabetes educator. Responsibilities include developing care policies, modeling professional behavior, complying with standards and regulations, communicating effectively, participating in conferences, managing emergencies, prioritizing workload, respecting patient autonomy, participating in cost containment, documenting in EMR, and managing prescriptions and urgent visits.

Educator

Conducts thorough, individualized assessments, develops DSMT plans, addresses learning needs, applies insulin adjustment protocols, stays current with diabetes technology, develops educational materials, and mentors staff.

Professional Development

Maintains current knowledge, participates in educational activities, stays updated on evidence-based practices, seeks feedback, attends relevant conferences, maintains licensure and certifications, and completes mandatory trainings.

Job Requirements

Graduate from an accredited RN BSN program.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required
  • Massachusetts RN license.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator certification.
Experience

Five years of relevant clinical nursing experience, preferably with one year outpatient experience.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Computer proficiency, effective communication, organizational skills, clinical judgment, adult learning principles, ability to work under stress, and teamwork skills.
