Qualifications

  • Complete data entry and imaging studies, hemodynamic calculations, and procedural reports.

  • Train staff as a preceptor and contribute to Skills Day education.

Job Description

The CV Invasive Specialist II (CVIS II) performs duties necessary for catheterization procedures at a technical and professional level requiring minimal supervision of technical detail. The CVIS II performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment. The CVIS II assumes responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required. Follows Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals (ACVP) scope of practice or for Electrophysiology, the NASPE Standards of Professional Practice for the Allied Professional in Pacing and Electrophysiology. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES ) is required to pass medications. Essential Functions

Essential Functions

Perform all of the duties of the CV Invasive Specialist I. Participate in procedure room preparation and post procedure turn around.

Develop specific knowledge with regard to invasive, diagnostic, and interventional supplies which includes assisting in inventory control. Develops specific knowledge of applications, proper use and deployment techniques including documenting hemodynamic recordings, calculations, and interpretations.

Provide patient education and emotional support for patients and their family members; ensure patient comfort. Foster teamwork and cohesiveness with team members and physicians.

Develop knowledge specific to cardiopulmonary pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomic anomalies, and treatment options. Assess the condition of the patient, document, and inform physician of deviations from normal criteria throughout the procedure.

Understand and apply principles of x-ray generation and safety. Understand and demonstrate the correct operation of imaging equipment.

May mix and administer medications under the direction and supervision of the physician (RCIS or RCES is required to pass medications). Pursuant to state laws.

At the end of the procedure, may apply closure device, suture the sheath in place, or remove the sheath and apply pressure to obtain hemostasis.

Provide thorough and accurate documentation of each procedure and associated events.

Develop skills in operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Perform point of care testing and QA.

Accountabilities

Scrub, circulate, and monitor in diagnostic, interventional, and CRM procedures according to scope of practice documents.

Complete procedure data entry; acquire and process imaging studies, hemodynamic assessment and calculations, intra-procedure CathPCI registry requirements, and prepare procedural reports.

Has a thorough knowledge of invasive diagnostic and interventional supplies, appropriate indications and applications, and proper use and deployment techniques.

Prepare for patient status changes related to procedural events. Take immediate and appropriate action when status changes occur.

Orient and train staff; teach, coach, mentor, and provide direct supervision as a defined preceptor.

Provide staff education in Skills Day Workshops.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • PALS certification for children's hospitals or ACLS certification for adults. New employees must obtain within 3 months of start.
  • Beginning July 1, 2026 must be registered as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or ARRT-CI or ARRT-VI only or RN (previous relevant RN experience required)
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing complex diagnostic and advanced interventional procedures or demonstrated understanding and proficiency in correlation with years of experience with regards to electrophysiology procedures.
  • Maintains at least 12 hours of continuing medical education (CME) credits per year.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence of CVIS/CVES I skills evidenced by skills sign off (must be completed within 3 months of hire)
  • Must meet all state specific requirements (must be completed within 3 months of hire) including, but not limited to: Surgical Tech/Assistant Certification per state requirements
  • Fluoroscopy Operator Certification as required in the state of Colorado
  • Montana ARRT state license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in health science program. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or Respiratory Therapy program
  • One year of Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or Electrophysiology experience (not including academic training or CVIS training).
