Qualifications

• ASN required; BSN preferred for this unit.
• Active RN license in Indiana or NLC equivalent.
• BLS certification required; additional ACLS or specialized certs may be required per unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Monitor and interpret vital signs and patient status.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team for care plans.
• Educate patients and families about conditions and treatments.

Advanced Heart Care (5E) is a specialized Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) dedicated to caring for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions. The unit manages patients with advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, and post-CABG recovery. The team also supports patients undergoing LVAD and heart transplant evaluations, as well as those requiring post-procedural care following cardiac catheterization, valve repair, and valve replacement procedures.

As the only PCU within the organization that performs sheath removal following cardiac procedures, Advanced Heart Care (5E) offers a unique opportunity for nurses to develop highly specialized cardiac skills. The unit also focuses on comprehensive long-term cardiac care planning, helping patients navigate complex treatment pathways and optimize outcomes throughout their cardiac journey.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
