Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Stepdown Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Care Unit in Kansas City, KS. This role involves care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures, with 12‑hour day shifts and a full‑time schedule.

You will monitor patients closely, administer medications, perform cardiac assessments, and educate families on treatment plans and self‑care to support optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current RN license issued by the state.
• BLS certification required at hire and maintained.
• ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire and kept current.
• Previous acute care hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-acuity care for post-cardiac patients with close monitoring.
• Monitor cardiac status, vital signs, and telemetry for changes.
• Administer prescribed medications, including IV and cardiac drugs.
• Perform cardiac assessments and review histories to guide care.
• Educate patients and families on conditions, plans, and self-care.
• Respond to emergencies with CPR and life‑saving interventions.

Hours: 12-hour shifts – 7:00am to 7:00pm

Location: Providence Medical Center - Kansas City, KS

The Stepdown Registered Nurse specializes in providing care for patients who are recovering from cardiac procedures, surgeries, or events like heart attacks.The Step-Down RN offer an intermediate level of care between the ICU and the general medical-surgical floor.Step-Down Nurses are responsible for close monitoring, medication administration, patient education, and care coordination.

Responsibilities

Delivers decisive, high-acuity patient care while closely monitoring patients, and care coordination for optimal patient outcomes.

• Monitor patients' cardiac status, vital signs, and telemetry data to detect any changes or abnormalities, which is crucial for patients recovering from cardiac procedures, heart attacks, or other cardiac conditions
• Administer medications as prescribed by physicians, including intravenous drugs, cardiac medications, and pain management medications
• Perform assessments of patients' cardiac status, including physical assessments, review medical histories, and evaluate symptoms
• Provide education to patients and their families about cardiac conditions, treatment plans, medications, lifestyle modifications, and self-care practices
• React promptly to cardiac emergencies, including arrhythmias, cardiac arrests, or respiratory distress, necessitating immediate implementation of emergency procedures, administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and aiding in defibrillation and other crucial life-saving measures

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• Must have current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State.
• BLS upon hire and maintain current.
• Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred.
• ACLS within 30 days of hire and maintained current.
