Job summary

UCSF Medical Center is seeking an experienced RN to provide lactation support within the Birth Center, delivering patient-focused education and breastfeeding guidance to mothers and babies.

The role requires applying the nursing process to plan and deliver safe care, working with an interdisciplinary team, and orientation to all UCSF locations. A BSN and California RN licensure are preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years RN labor/delivery experience in inpatient setting (high-risk antepartum, L&D, OR, postpartum, well baby).
• Ability to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide lactation assistance to women and infants within Benioff Children’s Hospital Birth Center.
• Develop and evaluate education around breastfeeding for patients, families, and staff.

Zion, Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $175 million. The mission of the UCSF Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences is to improve the lives and health of all women through excellence, innovation and leadership in Patient Care, Scientific Discovery, Education, Advocacy. “Leading the way in women’s health.” The Mission Bay Birth Center includes 9 LDRP rooms, 24 Post Partum rooms, 12 Antepartum rooms and 9 triage bays. This position reports directly to the Unit Director of the Birth Center, under Women’s Health and Adult Services.

Job Summary

Provides lactation assistance to women and infants within the Benioff Children’s Hospital, including but not limited to the Birth Center, who are attempting to establish or maintain breast feeding practices. Works to develop, implement and evaluate education around breast feeding for patients, families, and staff.

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of recent full-time clinical RN labor and delivery experience in an inpatient setting including high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, operating room, postpartum and well baby.
• Carry out established nursing procedures, and perform nursing care for patients with complex needs.
• The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN
• The ideal candidate will have 2 or more years of recent nursing experience including high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, operating room, postpartum, and well baby.
• Prior MedSurg, TCU, ICU, step down experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Current American Heart Association CPR certification
• Current American Heart Association ACLS certification
• Current NRP certification
• AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM
