Job summary

UCSF Medical Center is seeking an experienced RN to provide lactation assistance to women and infants within the Birth Center and Benioff Children's Hospital, supporting breastfeeding initiation and continuation. The role uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, works with interdisciplinary teams, and helps educate patients, families and staff on breastfeeding practices.

You will rotate across UCSF locations as needed, maintain competency in high-risk obstetric

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent full-time RN labor and delivery experience in inpatient settings.
• Experience with high-risk antepartum, labor, delivery, OR, postpartum and well baby.
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Job description

The Women's Health Service Line at UCSF Medical Center is, engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $175 million. The mission of the UCSF Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences is to improve the lives and health of all women through excellence, innovation and leadership in Patient Care, Scientific Discovery, Education, Advocacy. "Leading the way in women's health." The Mission Bay Birth Center includes 9 LDRP rooms, 24 Post Partum rooms, 12 Antepartum rooms and 9 triage bays. This position reports directly to the Unit Director of the Birth Center, under Women's Health and Adult Services.

Job Summary

Provides lactation assistance to women and infants within the Benioff Children's Hospital, including but not limited to the Birth Center, who are attempting to establish or maintain breast feeding practices. Works to develop, implement and evaluate education around breast feeding for patients, families, and staff.

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

• Prior MedSurg, TCU, ICU, step down experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
• Current American Heart Association CPR certification
• Current American Heart Association ACLS certification
• Current NRP certification
• AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM
