Summary

The Nurse IV Associate Chief Nurse (ACN) Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) provides leadership characterized by significant responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that span services and disciplines, influencing the organizational healthcare mission. The ACN functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor, bringing extensive experience and leadership skills.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
• Education: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of completion.
• Foreign Graduates: Must possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration.
• Equivalent Coursework: Completion of a nursing degree in an MSN Bridge Program qualifying for registration.
• Submission: Students should submit their professional nursing certificate and MSN transcript to sit for the NCLEX.
• Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
• Preferred: MSN Degree, supervisory or program management experience.

Grade Determinations:

Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and 4-5 years of experience, or a Doctoral degree with 3-4 years of experience. Refer to VA qualifications standards for details.

Physical Requirements:

• Walking and standing, with potential long sitting periods.
• Possible exposure to patients with psychiatric or behavioral issues.
• Use of fingers and visual acuity required.

Duties

• Provides senior leadership and oversight for clinical and administrative nursing operations as directed by the ADPCS.
• Ensures delivery of nursing care to Veterans and manages nursing staff within GEC programs including CLC and HBPC.
• Leads assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of rehabilitation, HBPC, and CLC programs.
• Manages resources efficiently within GEC.
• Fosters integration and collaboration across disciplines to achieve patient-centered and organizational goals.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and program leaders at various levels.
• Engages effectively with patients, families, and the community.
• Other duties as assigned.
