Position Summary

The Ambulatory Physician/Patient Specialist serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, and ambulatory staff. The specialist advocates for physician rights, educates the team on regulatory policies, and addresses concerns and complaints. This role involves investigating issues, responding to complaints, and improving patient and physician relationships to enhance care and satisfaction. A BS in Nursing is required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve physician concerns related to patient interactions and clinical treatment, collaborating with practice managers.
  • Manage cases independently, including meetings with physicians and practice managers, patient discussions, and medical record reviews.
  • Develop timelines, document findings, and present cases to leadership, including Risk Management and Patient Relations.
  • Coordinate interventions for patients and families, and serve as a mediator in family meetings with the treatment team.
  • Educate staff about patient rights per federal, state, and regulatory standards.
  • Work with ambulatory navigators to de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Build strong relationships with physicians to foster a healthy work environment and reduce burnout.
  • Participate in committees, work groups, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to hospital standards, policies, and regulatory requirements, including Patient Rights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • BS Degree in Nursing
  • Preferred experience in Care Management and/or Social Work
  • Preferred experience in Ambulatory Operations
  • Excellent communication, grammar, and writing skills
  • Attention to detail, organization, independence, and knowledge of patient rights and regulations
  • Aware of patient care across all age groups, conflict resolution, and stress management techniques
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital operations, safety practices, and community resources

  • May be exposed to chemicals; SDS information is accessible via hospital resources.
